Philanthropy

The Conference team at UCLA is thrilled to announce that we are partnering with Create Now, an organization formed to help cap violence in poverty stricken neighborhoods. Based out of LA, it serves to teach children about art and music, and facilitates many creative projects throughout the city. Projects such as school beautification, concerts, gardens, and city murals have been created by kids.Their mission statement says “We help youth find their voices through arts mentoring and education”, and they have done just that, serving over 40,000 underprivileged youths in the last 22 years. We believe as a school and as a conference that CreateNow message is clear and aligns with the PACURH values, which is why we decided to collaborate with them this year.
There are 3 ways to contribute to CreateNow:
1) A monetary donation
We will be accepting in-person checks addressed to CreateNow. The checks will be handed to a CreateNow representative on the day delegates arrive (Friday, November 9th) straight to a representative from CreateNow. They will be located in the lobby of Luskin in the afternoon while everyone is checking in.
2) Supply Donations
We have an Amazon Wishlist! This will donate materials straight to the CreateNow headquarters; these will go towards the onsite projects for the kids visiting. The mailing address is 1611 S Hope St, Los Angeles, CA 90015.
To ship your supplies to UCLA (in case you are unable to travel with them), please mail to
Josh O'Connor: UCLA, 417 Charles E Young Drive W, Bradley Hall, Los Angeles CA 90095
3) Our conference philanthropy project
Our conference this year is featuring an on-site creative project that will allow delegates to participate in a fun and interactive donation to CreateNow. CreateNow often has groups of foster kids that cycle through visits at their headquarters; as well as art and music, they also enjoy taking pictures with their friends. Our CreateNow contact Ruby Medina expressed interest in a transportable photo booth that the youth can take pictures behind, as well as silly decorations to wear. We will be painting and designing a canvas backdrop to give to CreateNow as a photo booth, as well as decorating hats and masks with paint pens to give as well. This project will be taking place in the Hospitality Room in Carnesale Malibu at 9pm-12am Friday and Saturday night. Hope to see you there!
